Our Plan

 

In the summer of 2019, we presented our plan to translate the Core Texts to Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, the heart son of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and one of the main lineage holders of the Longchen Nyingtik. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche was very supportive of the project; he encouraged us in our endeavours and wrote a beautiful endorsement for the project. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche also advised us to revisit and re-translate some texts which had been translated a long time ago, to ensure that the terminology remains consistent.

The focus of our translations will gradually move from one sādhana to the next. The first sādhana that is practiced in the Longchen Nyingtik tradition is the guru practice of Rigdzin Düpa, whose main texts have already been translated. Since the start of the project we have re-translated and edited all the texts of this cycle.

The second sādhana is the main yidam or ‘personal deity’ of the Nyingtik, the Palchen Düpa. Unfortunately, when we launched the project not even a translation of the root text was available, and so not many people are practising it. Our translation of the main sādhana and several other texts have already been completed.

The third sādhana is the ḍākinī practice of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo. There is a large body of supplementary ritual texts related to this practice. Also, it is probably the sādhana from the Longchen Nyingtik cycle that is most commented upon. All the main practice texts have now been translated and the majority of the available commentaries are currently in the process of being translated.

The next sādhana is the inner guru practice of Dukngal Rangdrol. Since the launch of the project, new translations of the sādhana and all the other important practice texts have been published. Also most of the commentaries have already been translated, such as he ones by Jigme Lingpa and Khenpo Pema Vajra.

The work described above is estimated to take between one and two years. After that, our attention will move onto the remaining sādhanas: Ladrup Tikle Gyachen, Takhyung Barwa, Senge Dongchen, Shyitro Ngensong Jongwa, the Khandro Gegyang, and other texts and prayers. The translation of all the core texts is estimated to take between 5 and 10 years to complete.
