Report August 2026: Dorsem Nedren & Dukngal Rangdrol Lineage

This month we published two new texts in English, two in French and one in German.

Our first new text is Guiding the Dead (Nedren) from The Excellent Path of Great Bliss: A Ritual of Offering to the Gurus Based on Vajrasattva, Combined with Activity for the Benefit of Others, by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. This nedren or 'guidance' practice is intended to help guide the deceased to enlightenment by purifying the various realms of saṃsāra and granting empowerment. It belongs to the Abhirati Vajrasattva (Dorsem Ngön-ga) set of practices within the Longchen Nyingtik.

Our second text is Infinite Cloud Banks of Attainments, A Lineage Prayer and Aspiration for the Great Compassionate One, Natural Liberation of Suffering, by Drubwang Pema Rangdrol. A prayer to the lineage of the Great Compassionate One, Natural Liberation of Suffering (Dukngal Rangdrol), from Amitābha down to the author himself. The prayer also includes several verses of aspiration. The master Drubwang Pema Rangdrol (grub dbang padma rang grol, 1786–1838), from Rebkong, Amdo, was a student of Shabkar Tsokdruk Rangdrol (1781–1851) and a teacher of Chöying Tobden Dorje (1785–1848).

Also, a new version of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo's brief Longchen Nyingtik ngondro that includes four lines for the outer preliminaries added by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche is now published on Lotsawa House:

Now that I have this major opportunity afforded by the freedoms and advantages, so hard to find,

I will inspire myself through recollecting the impermanence of the environment and its inhabitants.

To emerge definitively from the sea of suffering that is the three worlds of saṃsāra,

May I discover the power to exert myself on the path without confusing what to adopt and avoid.

We also want to remind our readers that Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche, the senior most Khenchen of the Nyingma tradition, will teach on Shechen Gyaltsab's Vajrakilaya commentary called Words of the Vidyadharas. In preparation, the Longchen Nyingtik Project is currently translating this text, which will be shared with participants. The teaching will happen at Lerab Ling monastery but can also be followed online between 3–12 October. For more information and registration, please consult their website. This event is open to Vajrayana students who fulfill certain requirements.

The Longchen Nyingtik Project does not organize this event. For any inquiries, please write the organizers.
