Khyentse Wangpo and the Longchen Nyingtik

Today is the anniversary of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. Here we present a short summary of his works related to the Longchen Nyingtik.


Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820–1892) was one of the most extraordinary figures in the history of Tibetan Buddhism—a master whose breadth of learning and realization spanned virtually every lineage and tradition. Recognized as the body incarnation of Jigme Lingpa, he was one of the principal founders of the Rimé movement and held an unrivalled treasury of teachings, having received and mastered transmissions from over 150 teachers across all schools.

His connection to the Longchen Nyingtik was particularly intimate and he made several further revelations of the Tikle Gyachen. According to Dilgo Khyentse, Khyentse Wangpo's main practice was the guru yoga of the Longchen Nyingthig. He devoted immense energy to ensuring the cycle would flourish, composing dozens of supplementary texts — lineage prayers, empowerment manuals, recitation guides, daily practices, and ritual arrangements — that made the Longchen Nyingtik practically accessible for generations to come.

There are more than forty texts authored by Khyentse Wangpo in the Core Texts, of which we have translated and published twenty-one.
